What does “play-based” mean at Sunnybeam?
At Sunnybeam, play-based learning means children learn through hands-on exploration, imaginative play, and meaningful relationships. Teachers thoughtfully design the environment and experiences to support development, while allowing children the freedom to follow their interests. Because children spend their days with the same peers and teachers, learning is deeply connected to a strong sense of community and belonging.

How does Sunnybeam's play-based curriculum prepare children for school?
We believe young children learn best when they feel comfortable and confident. Children at Sunnybeam develop their own sense of community and explore learning together. During the school day children develop their language skills through interacting with peers, problem-solving during discussion and during play, and by having time to express their own thought process. Teachers maintain a strong connection with each child and help prepare them for kindergarten and the years to come. The teachers maintain a connection with the elementary school curriculum and weave learning opportunities into the school day so children feel prepared socially as well as academically as they move forward.
What kind of families tend to feel most at home at Sunnybeam?
Sunnybeam is often a great fit for families who value close relationships, open communication, and an engaged school community. Parents who are looking for more than just a program — and who want to be part of a warm, involved group of families — often find that Sunnybeam feels like a true community rather than just a preschool.

How does Sunnybeam build a strong sense of community?
Community is central to life at Sunnybeam. Children, families, and teachers form close relationships through daily interactions, shared experiences, and ongoing connection throughout the year. Because Sunnybeam is a small school, children are known as individuals, and families often form lasting friendships with one another as well.
What afternoon and after-school options are available?
Sunnybeam offers afternoon and after-school programming that allows families to extend the day while keeping children in a familiar, supportive environment. These programs give children the opportunity to explore a variety of activities, continue playing with their friends, and enjoy a relaxed transition from the school day, all within the same caring community. The specific programs vary from year to year to meet the needs of our current students and families.
What makes Sunnybeam different from other preschools?
Sunnybeam is a small, close-knit preschool community grounded in a deeply intentional play-based approach. Families choose Sunnybeam not only for its philosophy, but also for the strong relationships that develop among children, parents, and teachers. The result is a school environment where children feel known, supported, and excited to come each day.
