Enrollment & Registration Questions
Families often have specific questions as they begin the enrollment process. This page focuses on the most common registration and enrollment details, while our FAQ offers a broader look at Sunnybeam’s program, philosophy, and community for families who are still exploring whether our school is the right fit.
Q. Will you have any tours for the 2027-2028 school year?
A. Yes, we will host tours in January and early February. If you'd like to be on our interest list to hear once the dates have been set, please email the Director.
Q. Is there a 2026-2027 school year waitlist?
A. We fill our classes on a first-come, first-served basis. Our 5 day program and our 2-day Caterpillar programs are currently full but our 3-day Butterfly program and Tuesday and Thursday afternoon Discovery programs have space!
Q. What are the 2027-2028 registration eligibility requirements?
1. Children must be 3-years-old by August 31, 2027 and potty-trained to be eligible for the Caterpillar program (3’s program). Children must be 4-years-old by August 31, 2027 and potty-trained to be eligible for the Butterfly program (4-5’s program).
2. Health History and Enrollment Forms: In accordance with Washington State law, all children attending Sunnybeam must have received the medically verified required immunizations to attend preschool as recommended by the Washington State Department of Health. Sunnybeam follows the Mercer Island School District policy that requires parents and the child's physician to sign a claim of personal exemption if your child's immunizations are incomplete. Sunnybeam also requires that all health, release and enrollment forms be completed and returned to the school by the Friday before the first week of school.
Q. I went to Sunnybeam as a child. Is my child eligible for priority registration?
A. Yes, children of alumni may submit their registration form during priority registration.
Q. What is your age cutoff date for Caterpillars? What about the Butterfly class?
A. For 2027-2028, Caterpillars need to be 3 by August 31, 2027. We will reevaluate after open registration if we will be opening the class to younger students. Butterflies must be 4 by August 31, 2027.
Q. We will be sending our child to Kindergarten at age 6. Can our child attend Sunnybeam for 3 years?
A. Yes! Please contact our Director to discuss different class options for a 3 year path.
Q. What is the process for accepting children to Sunnybeam?
A. Sunnybeam preschool has a non-discrimination policy. Current Sunnybeam students, their siblings, and then children of alumni are given priority, followed by a first-come, first-served general registration.
Q: What is Sunnybeam's non-discrimination policy?
A. Sunnybeam School does not discriminate in admissions, educational policies, scholarship and loan programs, or school administered programs on the basis of race, creed, color, national origin, sexual orientation, sex, or the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability, or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal by a child with a disability.
Q. How do you conduct your registration?
A. Current students, their siblings, then children of alumni are given preference during Priority Registration. Sunnybeam then opens up the remaining spaces for first-come, first-served general registration. For the 5-day classes, the selection priority is similar, except that first priority is given to current, matriculating 5-day students.
Q. How can I turn in my completed registration form?
A. We will post our registration dates later this year. To join our interest list, please contact our Director.
